Introduction: The promotion of organ donation awareness relies not only on supportive policies and legislation but also on localized and people-centered outreach strategies to foster positive perceptions and societal acceptance. At our hospital, organ donation coordinators and medical social workers collaboratively plan and implement a variety of interactive promotional activities tailored to different target groups. These efforts aim to enhance knowledge, reduce misconceptions, and encourage public engagement.
Methods: With the hospital as the core setting, a multidisciplinary promotion team—comprising physicians, coordinators, and social workers—designed diverse educational strategies targeting healthcare professionals, hospital volunteers, patients and their families, and the general public.
The strategies included:
Activities were held in high-traffic areas such as hospital lobbies, outpatient waiting areas, and wards, as well as in external venues like community fairs, public events, and online platforms, thereby increasing accessibility and outreach.
Results: Over the past three years, our hospital’s multifaceted promotional strategies have contributed to a deeper public understanding of organ donation. These efforts have encouraged more open discussions and empathy among healthcare staff regarding the topic. They have also helped reduce resistance toward death and donation-related issues among the public. Notably, some participants and volunteers proactively inquired about organ donation registration.
Conclusion: Multimodal promotion strategies jointly led by coordinators and social workers have proven effective in improving knowledge and attitudes toward organ donation while fostering communication and engagement with the broader community. Future efforts will continue to refine activity designs to build a more sustainable and scalable outreach model, ultimately enhancing social support and participation in organ donation.
