Introduction: DonateLife Tasmania (DLT) have expanded the activities of our state-based data and audit portfolio in response to Tasmania's key strategic focus of 'closing the performance gap'. This is aligned with the Australian Organ and Tissue Authority's (OTA) key strategic priority 'enhancing systems for collection and reporting of data and information to drive clinical best practice' (OTA Strategy 2022-2027). There are identified opportunities to collect practice intelligence providing critical information about donor referral practice in key clinical areas in Tasmanian hospitals. In practice, it is known there are key factors pertaining to donor referral which impact on the family donation conversations. Despite the impact of these factors on the donation process there are no current systems available which capture this key intelligence and inform our clinical engagement programs.
Activity
Results and next steps: From the initial trial in the collection of key data points, a base list of themes and common factors on both a state and hospital specific level can be observed to impact on Tasmanian donor referral to family donation conversation practice.
In the trial, reporting of this information has commenced to unit Morbidity and Mortality forums statewide to evaluate the clinical response to the information shared.
Our next steps include:
Acknowledgement of Susan Towns, Agency Manager/Statewide Nursing Director and Alex Goward Clinical Nurse Manager DonateLife Tasmania for content guidance, revision and team leadership.
