Introduction: In recent years, the UAE has established a robust deceased donor organ donation and transplantation program. Hayat, which means life in Arabic, is the National Human Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation Program, created in September 2020 under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Prevention -MOHAP. In addition to establishing appropriate legislation, the training of health professionals has carried out awareness-raising activities in a multicultural society, including the voluntary registration of donation intentions.
Objective: Establish a new global registry for the largest number of online organ donation records in a one-hour period in the Guinness book.
Methodology: Different segments of society were invited in advance, encouraging them to spread the word in their communities for people to sign up at a specific date and time. Entries were monitored live by Guinness auditors in an auditorium. The time count was started and the records were monitored. Access was made through the home page https://mohap.gov.ae/en/hayat
Results: Before the start of the online challenge, 21,357 residents of various nationalities were registered in the Hayat registry. After an hour, another 4,010 registries were added, and the number increase to 25,367, setting a new world record for recording donation intentions in a period of one hour. Currently, more than 30 thousand registrations have been made.
Conclusion: The establishment of donation and transplant programs requires clear institutional strategies, government support with specific legislation and regulation, specialized health care team training, to broad communication support. Social awareness actions can be useful for publicizing these programs, in addition to motivating interest in the subject of organ donation as part of health care programs.
