Biography

Jan Kniese has been working as a physician in the medical competence team of the German Society for Tissue Transplantation (DGFG) since 2018. The DGFG is Germany's largest tissue establishment and provides half of all corneas, heart valves, blood vessels and amniotic membranes transplanted in Germany. As part of the medical competence team and deputy regional manager, Jan Kniese is responsible for the tissue donation process and the medical screening of potential tissue donors. With his many years of experience in the selection of suitable tissue donors, in communication with relatives and in tissue removal, Jan Kniese has conducted practical workshops at annual conferences of European and non-European tissue donation associations, such as the European Association for Tissue and Cell Banks (EATCB), the European Eye Bank Association (EEBA) and the South African Tissue Bank Association (SATiBA).
1999 medical degree at Hanover Medical School.
2000 – 2008 specialist training, internal medicine & emergency medicine.
2008 – 2018 specialist in internal medicine and emergency medicine and most recently as senior physician including the infectious diseases ward.
