Cathy works as the Head of Education and Professional Development for the Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation Directorate at NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) since 2015. She is a Registered Adult Nurse, a qualified Teacher in Health and Social Care, and an Executive Coach. Cathy is currently awaiting her viva to complete a Doctorate in Philosophy of Education at the University of Birmingham.

Her clinical expertise spans Critical Care, Organ and Tissue Donation, Policy Development, and the design and delivery of Education and Training programmes. During her tenure as a Specialist Nurse in Organ Donation and in a seconded role as Education and Governance Workstream Lead for the implementation of the opt-out system, Cathy honed her  commitment to donor family care, effective communication, and exploring the complex factors influencing donation decisions. A driving force in her work has been the empowerment of Specialist Nurses through education, confidence-building, and clarity of purpose in engaging with families.

Cathy has a strong interest in research and is dedicated to ensuring that education and training programmes are underpinned by robust evidence. Her work continues to focus on equipping Specialist Nurses with the knowledge, skills, and support needed to facilitate informed and enduring donation choices.
