Professor Shigeru Kinoshita is a renowned Japanese ophthalmologist and clinician-scientist at Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine (KPUM). He earned his M.D. from Osaka University Medical School in 1974. In 1992, he was appointed Professor and Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at KPUM. After stepping down from that role in March 2015, he became Professor and Chair of the Department of Frontier Medical Science and Technology for Ophthalmology at KPUM in April 2015. Professor Kinoshita is internationally recognized for his pioneering work in regenerative therapies for corneal diseases, particularly his development of cultured corneal endothelial cell injection therapy. This innovative treatment has the potential to restore vision for patients suffering from corneal endothelial dysfunction. In addition to his academic roles, Professor Kinoshita serves on the medical advisory board of Aurion Biotech, where he continues to contribute to the advancement of cell therapies for ocular diseases. Throughout his career, he has received numerous accolades, including the Alcon Research Institute Award and the Castroviejo Medal Lecturer of the Cornea Society. He has also served as a trustee and vice president of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO).
